Walking Safaris
A walking safari in Botswana allows you to discover a true wilderness environment with your professional guide and tracker, who will offer a fascinating insight into the surrounding bush and the fragile eco-system in which exists a huge variety of colourful flora and the fauna.
So much of the beauty and the intrigue is missed when game viewing purely from a vehicle and so when walking with skilled trackers, not only is it one of the most thrilling ways to see the bush, but it is also the very best way to really learn and understand its secrets. A walking safari in Botswana allows you to discover a true wilderness environment with your professional guide and tracker, who will offer a fascinating insight into the surrounding bush and the fragile eco-system in which exists a huge variety of colourful flora and the fauna.
We recommend that you visit the game-rich floodplains just to the north of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve where you will find your delightful mobile tented camp and staff waiting to greet you with lunch and a refreshing drink. Your camp consists of spacious twin bedded, double fly tents with sewn-in floors and insect proof netting. There is also an en suite shower & toilet to the rear of the tent. The camp is rustic, but extremely comfortable and well run with a high standard of bush cuisine including fresh meats, vegetables, fruits and cheeses. There is also a fully stocked bar serving a wide selection of wines, beers, spirits, soft drinks and bottled mineral water.
The daily programme is extremely flexible and each evening your guide will brief you on the next day’s walking and mokoro trips. Generally after a light breakfast you head out on a walk which will normally last no longer than around four hours, covering a maximum of approximately 6 kilometres. You then return to camp for lunch and a revitalising siesta before heading out for either another game walk or a mokoro ride.
Recommended locations for walking safaris include:
The Selinda Reserve where over the course of three days you walk in the vicinity of & between two Trails Camps (please see our 'From Desert to Delta' itinerary for further details).
Ker & Downey's Footsteps Camp in the heart of the Okavango Delta offers excellent bush walking and can be combined with the Kanana Mokoro Trail with an emphasis on both walking and mokoro rides.
