Samburu and Shaba National Reserves
With the Uaso Nyiro River running through it, the Samburu National Reserve and its adjoining neighbours, Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserve, offer an oasis for wildlife amidst the arid lands to the north of Mount Kenya.
Rounded kopjes covered in thick scrub and the rich riverine environment of wavering doum palms offer the perfect habitat for reticulated giraffe, crocodile, warthog and Grevy's zebra as well as significant numbers of leopard and lion. Bird life is also prolific with immense flocks of Helmeted and Vulterine Guinea-fowl making their way to the river bank to drink each afternoon.
Being a little more remote than other parks, a flying safari incorporating Samburu will take you away from the crowds and into the rugged splendour of a land which is very different from the highlands and savannah plains in the south of the country.
