Trekking in the Atlas Mountains
Runing like a backbone down the middle of the country, the Atlas mountains with their snow-capped peaks, deep gorges and stunning pastoral valleys are an ideal place to escape the bustle of the souks and medinas.
From the beautiful Ouirgane Valley you can head into the mountains for a trek of 4 days which takes you through juniper and thuya forests, past cultivated terrace fields and along some of the most stunning valleys in the region.
Reaching an altitude of around 2500m you pass through a number of Berber villages including Tiziane and Tizgui where a warm welcome awaits. Camping in bivouacs or staying in Berber homes, this gives you a fascinating insight into a very different and peaceful mountain world.
Alternatively there are a number of treks possible starting and finishing in Marrakech which last between 1 and 7 days. Please contact us for further information about these or a copy of our detailed Toubkal Trek itinerary.
Our preferred hotels in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains include:
Kasbah Tamadot
La Roseraie
Kasbah du Toubkal
La Bergerie
