Visa Requirements – Holders of UK passports do not require a visa for entry into Tunisia for stays of up to 3 months, but the Immigration authorities sometimes check to ensure that you have a valid onward/return ticket and sufficient funds for your visit.

You should carry a full passport with a minimum of six months’ validity from the date of your return to the UK and your passport should have at least 2 blank pages for the Immigration stamps.

Health Requirements – There are no mandatory vaccinations required for entry into Tunisia. Infectious diseases such as tetanus, diphtheria and polio can occur but they are very rare.

We strongly recommend that you contact your doctor or the MASTA (Medical Advisory Service for Travellers Abroad) Travellers Health Line on 0870 60 62782 or else visit their website at www.masta.org for all up to date professional medical advice.

Time – GMT +1 hour (October – April) or GMT +2 hours (May – September)

Money – The currency of Tunisia is the Tunisian Dinar (TD), which is then divided into 1000 millimes.  The dinar cannot be imported or exported from the country, so you will only be able to exchange currency on arrival in Tunisia. Pounds Sterling, Euros and US Dollars cash and travellers cheques are readily exchangeable in most banks and hotels, whilst credit cards such as Visa and Mastercard can also be used in most hotels and restaurants. ATMs are found in most sizeable towns.

Climate - A Rough Guide
Northern Tunisia has a typical Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The mountains in the north-west occasionally receive snowfall. The further south that you travel, the hotter and drier it becomes. Annual rainfall ranges from 1000mm in the north down to 150mm or less in the south (some regions of the Sahara can go for years without rain). Summer temperatures can be very hot, whilst desert nights can be very cold.

Please note also that in recent years the traditional seasons in Tunisia, as elsewhere in the world, have become less predictable than in previous years due to global climatic changes.

When to go - Tunisia is a year round destination, although if you are seeking the best beach weather then April – October is recommended (please note that the summer months of July & August can be very busy at the coast). The spring months of March – May tend to be pleasantly warm and the country is at its prettiest after the rains. October and November can be good months to visit the desert regions in the south after the summer heat has abated and when the date harvest is underway.
