Description
This tiny untamed speck of land in the vast southern oceans is home to a small human population, but a huge wildlife population and its principal attraction is the remarkable diversity of the flora and fauna within the islands…here penguins outnumber humans by some margin ! Clear, unpolluted skies and fish-rich waters have created the perfect habitat for many, often rare bird species and a large variety of marine wildlife including Sea lions, elephant seals and whales.
Being remote and under-populated, the myriad of little islands also offer superb hiking for those seeking to escape the hustle & bustle of life and other activities include excellent trout fishing, 4×4 road trips and scenic boat trips.
In 1982 the Falkland Islands became the focus of world attention on account of the war with Argentina and scattered throughout the islands are a number of cemeteries and other poignant reminders of the war including the remnants of military hardware making it a fascinating place for military historians to visit.
