Ecuador and Galapagos Group Tour, 2015
Not only is Ecuador blessed with a delightful climate, but despite its relatively small size, it is also a treasure chest of nature’s most enticing wonders. Coursing like a backbone through the middle of the country are the Andes mountains with their snow-capped volcanoes, whilst to the east is the Oriente which is home of the Amazon basin and a dizzying array of flora and fauna. Vibrant indigenous markets, rich Inca history and beautiful Spanish colonial architecture ensure Ecuador remains an important cultural gem, but perhaps the country’s greatest prize are the Galapagos Islands, made famous by Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution as illustrated in his book ‘The Origin of the Species’. These islands are one of the world’s greatest natural wonders where the animals show no fear, leading to unique animal encounters and a must see for wildlife enthusiasts.
The tour will be lead by travel guru Sue Lewis.

Your safari begins with a light aircraft flight from Dar es Salaam to the Selous Game Reserve, the largest protected tract of wilderness in Africa and home to one of the continent’s greatest populations of elephant, buffalo, hippo and crocodile. The scenery of the Selous is stunningly varied with grassy plains, open woodland and thick forest, whilst stemming from the mighty Rufiji River are myriad channels, lakes and swamps that form one of the most outstanding ecological habitats in East Africa. You spend 2 nights in the luxurious Mivumo River Lodge, which is situated on the banks of the mighty Rufiji, and explore this wild land with experienced guides by open 4×4 vehicle, on foot and by boat.
From the Selous you fly north across the East African coast to the island of Zanzibar, home to beautiful white coral sand beaches and the fascinating port of Stone Town, formerly one of the Indian Ocean’s most prosperous trading centres. The scent of cloves still drifts over the ancient buildings and narrow alleyways of the town which you explore on foot with your expert guide: churches, museums, forts and ancient slave chambers provide a fascinating insight into a lost world of Omani Sultans and European explorers. You spend 2 nights at the charming Serena Inn in the heart of Stone Town, with direct views over the ocean.
A short flight from Zanzibar brings you to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s most important and fast growing city. You spend 2 nights at the luxurious 5 star Serena Hotel close to the city centre, which allows you a full day to visit the Malaika Kids Village charity project. Dar es Salaam still boasts an array of attractive buildings from the German colonial period, especially in the vicinity of the main harbour.
